It really is funny seeing so many performative gotcha tweets re: Seungri.
'But he pled guilty! You think you know better than the court? You don't believe the judge, tee hee?'
No! Let me tell you why I don't, and why you saying that proves you don't know what happened.
Seungri was not allowed witnesses in his defense. The Prosecution had over 20 witnesses. The majority of those witnesses called to testify AGAINST him actually corroborated his testimony and spoke about police pressure and coercion to implicate him in their initial statements.
Seungri in his closing statements, basically the only defense of himself he was allowed over a period of months, spoke about his initial 100+ hours of interrogation where the police told him candidly that they'd been ordered to arrest him or they'd lose their jobs. Just confess.
He didn't do that despite an unprecedented investigation and amount of pressure. He fought for his innocence for YEARS, which is hard in a sham trial that allows no defense (SK has a 99+ % conviction rate).
They combed through every inch of this mans life going back a decade and pulled out every technicality they could possible charge him with so they could lean on charge stacking as a way to imprison him, because all of the allegations alone wouldn't cut it.
Examples of the stupidity? He's apparently a sex offender because he paid for a hotel room. He's apparently an illegal distributor for sharing a promotional flyer for a nightclub, and oh yes-- he apparently instigated an assault because he touched his phone at a bar.
Seungri fought and fought and fought and despite almost every witness corroborating his claims of innocence, it never mattered and was never going to matter. When he finally realised that, after YEARS, he was exhausted and gave up. He took a plea so he could go home sooner.
Unless you've been living in a hole or are brand spanking new to SK's justice system, you may have noticed that showing performative regret, letting the tears flow, begging for mercy etc is the only real defense. Even if you're innocent, act repentant and you'll receive leniency.
At several points during the trial, Seungri's 'lack of remorse' was admonished while he was fighting for his innocence. The judge himself made a note during sentencing that his ruling was partially because Seungri wouldn't just 'admit' what he'd done. Why would he?
You all tweet so confidently about the faults of the justice system but can't put 2+2 together on his behalf. When he finally took a plea and 'accepted the charges' and said he would 'reflect' his sentence was immediately halved. This isn't justice and never was. It's a show.
The summaries of each hearing are readily available. Anyone capable of putting aside their bullshit for one second would see what a farce this case was and how this man was railroaded and imprisoned to appease the media driven public demand. A mans life has been RUINED.
In summary: It would be great if you guys could simply grow up and actually take a look at what happened during this trial and the 'evidence' instead of waiting for the inevitable Netflix documentary 10 years down the line about this gross miscarriage of justice.
