@Hadithoftheday Yathrib.
Before Rasulullah ﷺ came to Madinah, it was known as Yathrib, meaning sadness, but afterwards it became known as Tayyibah/Munawwarah, meaning pure/illuminated.

@Hadithoftheday Before the advent of Islam, the Madina was known as Yathrib. The word "Yathrib" has been recorded in verse number 13 of Surah Al-Ahzaab in Qur'an. It is :
And when a faction of them said, O people of Yathrib,there is no stability for you [here], so return [home].(33:13)
And when a faction of them said, O people of Yathrib,there is no stability for you [here], so return [home].(33:13)
@Hadithoftheday The word "Madina" simply means "The city".
Madina is also called as " Taibah"
Other names of Madina include - Madinat-an-nabi ( The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ 's city) and Madinah-al-Munawwarah (The enlightned city).

@Hadithoftheday The city of Yathrib was a fresh open place for conveying Islam and a potential host for the message. The Prophet ﷺ saw the opportunity and couldn’t let it without doing his best to utilize it for the sake of dawah.
@Hadithoftheday Prophet Muhammad ﷺ decided to send someone to the city to teach people Islam and present the message to them.The Prophet ﷺ chose the beloved Companion Mus`ab ibn Umair R.A. Thus Mus'ab ibn Umair R.A was one of first ambassadors of Islam.
@Hadithoftheday Musab was not so old that it was difficult for him to carry out huge load in yathrib nor was he so young to make unwise or reckless moves. Musab was in his mid thirties.He had already experienced two previous migrations to Abyssinia so he used to leave Makkah & stay away for long
@Hadithoftheday Mus`ab was from the early Muslims, someone who accompanied the Prophet and learned Islam and the Quran from him. He had what Madinah needs in terms of knowledge and wisdom.
@Hadithoftheday Mus`ab was known of his kindness, wisdom, softness and eloquence which are all qualifications needed for an effective presentation of Islam and conveying its message to people.
@Hadithoftheday Thanks to Mus`ab R.A’s effort, Islam went into every single house in Yathrib(now madina) . People joined Islam individually and in groups. Mus`ab prepared yathrib to be the host city of the Prophet and the center of guidance to the whole humanity.
@Hadithoftheday Later when Prophet Muhammad ﷺ migrated from makkah, He re-named Yathrib as "Madina" and it was all due to the efforts and experience of Mus'ab ibn umair R.A due to which Islam went almost in every single house in Yathrib then. Mus'ab ibn umair was martyred in Uhud.
