How to land a high paying programming job in 7 steps:
(No CS degree required, resources included πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡)
1. Master a few high-value technologies
Having basic knowledge of many different technologies is not nearly as useful as having in-depth knowledge of just a few.
Focus on technologies that are in high demand, and learn them well.
2. Create a strong portfolio
Show your future employer that you are a valuable asset by building a portfolio of projects that demonstrates your skills and abilities.
Add some variety in your projects to demonstrate all the different areas you excel in.
3. Build an online presence
It can be as easy as sharing your journey and what your learn every day.
You'll be surprised at how many job offers and opportunities come your way when you have an online presence.
4. Strengthen your soft skills
Being a software engineer isn't just about writing code.
A strong set of soft skills that emphasises your ability to communicate effectively and work in a team will give you an edge over other candidates in any job interview.
5. Get certified
Certifications and other forms of recognition can help you demonstrate your knowledge to potential employers.
When choosing a certificate, make sure to pick one from a credible source and for a technology that is in high demand.
6. Grow a network
Get involved in the tech community by attending meetups and conferences, and engaging online.
You'll learn a lot, make valuable connections and meet people who can help you on your job search. You might even meet your future employer!
7. Get experience elsewhere
You don't need a full-time job to get experience.
Contribute to open-source, volunteer for a non-for-profit, or intern at a top company.
There are many ways you can add some key experiences to your resume that'll make future employers take notice.
