It is rare but a woman can get pregnant while pregnant.
Normally, a woman stops releasing eggs once she is pregnant but in a rare condition known as “superfetation”, a woman can release another egg while pregnant, this egg can get fertilized with sperm, and attach to the wall-
-of the uterus, resulting in two babies.
It is possible for a woman to get pregnant for two different men, thereby giving birth to twins with two different fathers. This phenomenon is called “heteropaternal superfecundation”.
Heteropaternal superfecundation occurs when two of a woman’s eggs end up being fertilized by two different men.
Simply put, when a woman is ovulating and she has sex with two different men within a short period of time, her eggs can end up being fertilized by two of them, this can result in her giving birth to twins with two different fathers.
If you watched the animation, “Blood of Zeus”, what led to the birth of Heron was the aforementioned phenomenon (i.e heteropaternal superfecundation).
A woman can get pregnant 5days after sex. An egg can live for about 12-24hours after being released while sperms live longer. A healthy sperm can live for about 5days inside a woman’s body and that’s how this is possible.
So, if you’ve sex few days before ovulation, the sperm can ‘wait’ for the egg to be released and fertilize it.
Some people believe it is impossible for a woman to get pregnant during her period. That is a misconception.
A woman can still get pregnant during her period, although the chances are very much reduced compared to when she isn’t on her period but, the thing is, it is still possible.
But how comes? How is it even possible?
Let me explain:
In every month a woman usually releases an egg approximately day 14 of her cycle, it may differ in some women or due to certain circumstances. Now, if this egg happen to meet a sperm, fertilization occurs but if it doesn’t the lining of the uterus is sloughed off about 14 days-
-later. This is called your period.
Most women have periods that last from 2-8days and take place every 26 to 34 days. Ovulation typically occurs midway through the cycle and it is the most fertile time in your menstrual cycle. Women with shorter menstrual cycle for example 24days-
-could have 7days of bleeding, have sex on her final day of bleeding, and if she ovulates early, since a sperm can live for about 5days (even 7days), she could definitely get pregnant.
