The best design is as little design as possible said Dieter Rams.
With UI the best design is invisible. But what does it mean?
Let's explore in a thread ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿงต
It's all about picking the right focus.
What do you want to accomplish with a design?
If it's a product - it needs a purpose.
If it's a dribbble shot - it can be artsy and over the top visually to catch attention.
There's room for both. ๐Ÿ‘‡
The first rule is - always focus on the desired outcome.
Substraction of elements is always better than addition. Less is more, and less is also easier to process.
๐Ÿ‘‡
Don't make using the product a pain. People already have enough struggles in their lives.
Make it simple, engaging and fun.
If it's something they need to do, make it as quick for them as possible. Nobody likes chores.
๐Ÿ‘‡
Design is NOT art. Unless you're posting a Dribbble shot and you want likes and popularity - in that case it can be.
For most other cases, make sure the visuals and "wow effects" don't overtake the functionality.
They should augment it instead.
๐Ÿ‘‡
But...
That doesn't mean you shouldn't try new ideas or new design trends.
We need to keep going forward, experimenting and making better stuff.
Just keep the functionality and readability in mind first, then go wild!
