My theory about the "shadowbanning" conspiracy theories is this: It's a way to pressure social media companies to rewrite algorithims to dramatically favor far-right propaganda. This confirms that theory. salon.com
When Musk was told that the reason his tweets weren't doing better is because people don't actually like them, he didn't back down. Instead, he fired people. Why? To send the message: "Feed my tweets to people who don't want to read them."
Lauren Boebert's diatribe at the Twitter hearing shows this, as well. When she says she's "shadowbanned," she means, "I expect Twitter ot boost my tweets into the feeds of people who don't want to read them." salon.com
Republicans are working the social media refs like they did regular media refs: False claims of "liberal bias" are used to pressure companies into actual bias towards Republicans. It's why the mainstream media elevates GOP lies and downplays their corruption.
I keep hearing that people are seeing right wing garbage boosted into their feeds. If true, it makes sense, since that was the expectation that Musk was laying when he fired engineers for not picking up his "boost my tweets" hints.
People crowing about the "block" button: The concern here is not that hardened progressives will be annoyed. The issue is that boosting right wing lies will normalize them and sway a lot of people who aren't as smart and cynical as you. They aren't demanding this for giggles.
You can block Musk. But that doesn't fix a situation where mainstream journalists are seeing a lot more right wing lies in their feed and becoming inured to them until they point where they start portraying these folks as "normal." That's the issue here.
