In 1999, a reporter confronted Bezos:
“Is customer-obsession profitable?”
Bezos made him regret those words.
Here’s his customer-first method to build products (& how to use it):
In 1999, CNBC thinks Bezos is going to fail.
Every response Bezos has is the same:
The only business model is to be the best customer experience.
The customer-focus turned Amazon from a small bookstore into a $T behemoth.
Here's how:

The method:
Amazon writes the future press release (before they build product)
They build the product with the best customer experience in the press release
The press release includes:
• Problem
• Solution
• How the product works
• Customer and leadership quotes
So here's how you can use the Amazon method (to make your customers raving fans): 👇
1/ Label the target customer:
You need an in-depth understanding of your target customer to write how your solution impacts them.
• Demographics (ex: age, gender)
• Behavioral (ex: benefits bought, loyalty)
• Psychographic (ex: social class, lifestyle)
Example below:
2/ Understand customer pains (better than anyone)
These pains help you visualize the impact each product has on the customer.
Ask your customers questions like:
• What's the hardest part? Why?
• What have you done to solve?
• Tell me about the last time you had the problem?
3/ Write the press release (before you build)
The press release prioritizes the impact to the customers.
Tweak your press release until your customer is ecstatic with your solution
Include:
• Problem
• Solution
• How the product works
• Customer and leadership quotes
