On seeing this Tweet I finally groked the puzzle of why Indian elites almost without exception are so obsessed with visa free travel to the West.
An obsession I commented on in some puzzlement several times before.
So you know that finding about there being greater genetic distance between Indian castes than Indian regions? It's astounding. Members of different castes within one Indian region can be much farther apart than, say, a Greek would be from a German.
So India is in some sense a continental scale template for an Open Borders world, in which castes and phyles actually become more important and meaningful divisions (possibly, genetically closer) than regional communities/classical nation-states.
So it's of no surprise that Indian elites extend the same template to the world at large in a way that elites of more mundane nation-states don't.
In this light it's perhaps quite appropriate that an Indian came up with the "Network State"!
