Tumbleweed starts off as a seed which grows into a small plant and eventually into it's spherical shape we all know
As opposed to other plants, it's flowers don't attract bees or other pollinators that help spread it's seeds

So what did it "randomly evolve" to do?
The tumbleweed plant kills itself by starvation, until it is dry and brittle, so that it can be carried by the wind across the landscape to drop it's seeds along the way and help sustain the future generations of tumbleweed
