The Oneribei is a rammed earth wall that has stood through dozens of earthquakes at Nishinomiya shrine in Japan. Most likely built in the early 15th century. 247m long and in 62 nearly 4m long sections.
Individual sections has collapsed during quakes but are quickly repaired reusing the same material. Ingredients are 80% decomposed granite soil, 10% clay and 10% lime. The main enemy is poor drainage.
The most famous rammed earth in Japan are the walls at Horyuji in Nara, built in the 7th century A.D.
Rammed earth is the one natural material even modernists love.
