To make an even broader point than the EAM makes here - one should never be casual about the impulse of the west to export, rather impose hegemonic universalism. We didn’t become independent because the British empire had an epiphany that colonialism is wrong (1/3)
Rather we did because post WW2 the British empire couldn’t sustain its hold on its colonies, and couldn’t put down mutiny and rebellion. In other words it was power, not change of heart. The wrapping may have changed from exporting “Christian civilisation”…(2/3)
…to now exporting “liberal democracy” and the method is not overt colonisation (which they can’t do), but subversion, but the impulse is the same and is inherent to these ideologies. To quote Kota Srinivasa Rao from the movie “Money” - “Same card printed, names- different” (3/3)
