1/ This is one of the most depressing article I've encountered for a long time. I knew that publication practices in medicine are problematic, but I didn't know *how* bad it is. Perhaps more in a thread later.
Thanks @Liikennepsykol1 for the paper.
@Liikennepsykol1 2/ Part of the game is the Journal impact factor. Not news. But I did not know that all this part of the game is to produce convenient research, meaning that papers should be citable - quality is secondary
3/ The calculation of the JIF is a commercial secret!
4/ There is the unhealthy collaboration between the pharmaceutical industry, publisher, journal editor, and academics
5/ Ghost-writing is a huge problem
6/ Universities are part of the game, profiting from top-publications. Not news, but I did not know how large the financial benefit is for a University
7/ Corruption is so widespread, even affecting authors of Cochrane reviews
8/ Very depressing. In my university, academic career is heavily depending on the impact factor of publications. It seems there is no incentive for honest research and peer review. Play the game. Saddening.
