Building a burger empire

What inspired him?
Whilst working as a butcher, he discovered that most fresh meat sources were unsure to be Halal or not.
Together with his wife, he decided to start producing Halal-certified meat source, develop clean & good-quality halal Western fast-food chain in MY

The early days
He started the business of making patties from his home in 1978 together with his wife. He applied for a loan from MARA of RM7k but was rejected.
He seeded the business with his own capital of RM2k, started producing 200 burger patties a day.

It didn’t start out great..
Demand was poor as burger wasn’t a thing with Malaysians then. He persisted, setting up his own burger stall and tweaking the flavor to suit local taste buds.

His persistence paid off
From 200 patties a day, they grew to making 3,000 patties a day in their own home, to 100,000 patties a day in a factory and now making 1,000,000 patties a day in its newly expanded factory.

In 2019, their revenue was RM1billion with a 70% local market and 30% export.

What’s next?
Ramly group will be investing RM500mil to expand its production by 6x to making 6 mil patties a day.
They have their own retail front as well with 16 Ramly Halal Marts and 12 Halal Kiosks with aspiration to hit 450 branches in years to come.
