I’d be posting results of Peter’s work in Anambra in certain sectors. Not because of you but to end this narrative once and for all.
We’d be looking at these sectors before his tenure and after. #Thread
Economy:
(2007)
GDP - N90bn (29th/36)
Major contributors to economy - Trading/civil service
(2014) - when he left office
GDP - N2trn (6th/36)
Major contributors to economy - Agriculture, Industry, Trading (services)
He grew their GDP base by approx 20x in 7 years.
Healthcare
(2006):
When he resumed there was NO accredited state hospital. NONE were working.
(2014)
All state hospitals upgraded and accredited, nine schools of nursing built, a teaching hospital, and 100s of PHCs
*2020 they had the best public healthcare system
Security
(2006)
Politically sponsored riots, governor kidnapped, MASSOB terrorists, crime and kidnapping was rife.
(2014)
Safest state in nigeria for 5 years
Education:
(2006):
schools were closed for a year. high drop out levels, one of the lowest literacy rates in the south, dilapidated schools.
(2014)
1st twice in waec, 2nd highest in literacy rate, high unity cut off rates.
Remained top 6 in waec pass rates since 2014
Industry:
As at 2006, there was little industrial activity in the state
In 2014, when he left, local industries were contributing close to 30% of the GDP
Cars, spare parts, food, plastic, pharmaceuticals etc were being produced locally.
Osinbajo was impressed when he visited
Agriculture:
He created credit schemes for farmers, subsidized fertilizers, seedlings, and provided 100s of tractors for farmers.
Rescucitated the rice farms and got back the rice mill from the FG
They current have two of the largest rice mills in the country
Youth welfare
He gave a million naira to 160 first class graduates each, organized trainings and grants for youths and also micro credit schemes for SMEs and local production.
This led to a huge drop in unemployment rate
This is minus how he reformed the civil service, built the state secretariat, initiated family courts, and town unions for grassroots and decentralized governance.
Also cleared off all salaries, allowances, and pensions owed since 1996 and saved 75bn.
Peter, of course, isn’t a saint or the best thing we’ve seen since the invention of slice bread.
He had his lapses in areas like IGR (he did just 2x), or getting his preferred person to succeed him.
But I need y’all to stop asking that stupid question
Anambra is currently 2nd in public healthcare, has one of the best public education systems, and has the 6th largest GDP of all states.
These are due to the solid foundation Peter left after 8 years despite meeting Anambra at a point of decay.
And also I don’t agree with the main tweet.
None of the candidates are daft. All are very intelligent with legacies of their own.
But what stands Peter out is his character (he’s not a tyrant or a thief), his ideas (manifesto), and political will to deliver
Also, Peter will give you verifiable results in certain sectors in 4 to 8 years.
You don’t have to wait for 20 years before you see results or a blueprint.
IMO: Vote Obi. He’s the best candidate of the lot.
Thank you
@toluogunlesi this is also for you too.
So you stop asking what Peter obi did in Anambra. Thanks.
