Patent lawyers choose jurisdictions based on networks. If the lawyer went to the same school as the judge, they’re 4.6x more likely to win. Bad effects:
1) Talented but less-connected lawyers are less likely to get jobs
2) Law firms rely on a strategy of connections to win cases
The schools that judges go to effect their decisions in all sorts of ways.
