Moms and Dads,
As your children grow up,
Here are 11 things you should do:
• Email Your Kids
Setup an email account for your kids.
Whenever special events happen, send them an email and include:
• Photos
• Special events
• Precious moments
• Notes of love and learning
When your children are young adults, give them their email accounts.
• Family Night
Family night is a fun night.
Set a night where it's only you and your family and keep it consistent.
Some fun things you can do on family day and night:
• Sports
• Go for a walk
• Watch a movie
• Play board games
Your kids will love these nights.
• Parent Dates
First, your health.
Then, your relationship.
Then, focus on the children.
The best thing you can provide your kids is parents who love each other.
Have a regular date night together and talk about anything, EXCEPT your children.
This is about the two of you.
• Children Dates
If you have multiple kids, you need this.
Each child needs a different relationship with each of you.
Let them have that by scheduling time with each of them with each of you:
• Go for a walk
• Grab lunch together
• Play a sport with them
• Family Meetings
A family, like a business, can benefit from regular conversations about:
• Chores
• Finances
• Schedules
• School Work
• Family Health
• Goals and Objectives
Make sure everyone has a chance to take up space and share their thoughts.
• Eat Family Dinner
Family dinner is precious.
It's a time to debrief the day.
It's a time for you to listen to your kids and to teach them about life.
We bemoan what isn't taught in schools, well here's your chance to teach it to your kids.
• Visit Grandparents
If you're lucky to have them.
The bond between a grandparent and a child can be a beautiful thing.
As our parents age, it often takes off the rough edges we saw in childhood.
The joy and happiness in their eyes (kid and grandparent) is worth it.
• Journal Family Wins
Journal daily on gratitude.
Include some of your Family Wins.
When you do, it becomes a Log of Love.
You'll remember things about your children:
• Special events
• Precious moments
• Notes of love and learning
When you're down, read this journal.
• Annual Photo-Shoot
Someday, they won't be there.
They'll be gone and you won't believe how fast it went.
We've done a family photo-shoot since the boys were babies with the same photographer for 90% of them.
You'll never regret seeing these beautiful photos of your kids.
• Family Conversations
Talk to your partner.
Have conversations with your kids.
Don't make them one-sided sessions where you're always lecturing them.
Learn to hold space for your kids and give them the opportunity to share what'shappening in their lives.
• Mark Heights & Weights
Wow, this is fun.
We've had the same board since babies.
We've moved into four different homes with them.
The board gets hung on a special spot on the wall in each home.
It shows each boy their progress through life and gives them a comparison.
• TL;DR:
Every parent should do these 11 things:
• Family night
• Parent dates
• children dates
• Email Your Kids
• Family meetings
• Eat family dinner
• visit grandparents
• Journal family wins
• Annual photo-shoot
• Family conversations
• Mark height & weight
