Short thread about the modern left.
There are three messages that we are told represent the modern left. All of them have to do with women and their role in society.
There are three messages that we are told represent the modern left. All of them have to do with women and their role in society.
First one: transwomen are women.
This mantra is premised on the idea that our sex is changeable and that *any man* can declare to be a woman and become one ipso facto. Self identification replaces the material reality of our existence, over which ALL of socialism is based on

Second one: sex work is work. The mercification of women's bodies is reconceptualised as a choice of the women so exploited. And you cannot complain about your exploitation if you choose it, can you? With a stroke, all of Marxist analysis of exploitation is erased.
Third one: surrogacy for all. The reduction of a poor woman's body to a container for a child with whom any genetic link is avoided (the egg coming from anoter woman) is a 'free choice'. Freedom of contract as the lynchpin of capitalism another ignored concept by the modern left.
All three ideas reduce a woman to her biological identity while confer to males the power to strip women of their agency and rights, appropriated on the basis of self identification. As if the oppressor could become the oppressed by fiat.
Can a women identify out of her sex based oppression? Of course not. But she can reconceptualise it as a 'choice'. Men can identify out of membership to the oppressor class, not by the choice not to oppress women, but by the choice to become a member of the oppressed class.
Can someone tell me what is left wing about all of this?
