TANTRA AND CREATION
Tantra is a rich and complex spiritual tradition that provides us with a beautiful and insightful concept on how creation manifests through the interaction of consciousness with prana.
1)
This concept is not limited to cosmic events, but it also applies to our personal lives because each individual is a complete universe in themselves.
2)
According to Tantra, before the universe and galaxies emerged, the potential for creation existed in Hiranyagarbha, the universal womb of creation, also known as the golden egg.
3)
Bindu, which means 'point,' represents this idea, and it can be compared to a seed with infinite potential. The entire creation unfolds from this minute point of light.
4)
Bindu contains two poles of energy: a positive pole, representing consciousness or Shiva, which is associated with time, and a negative pole, representing prana or Shakti, which is associated with space.
5)
Matter is located at the nucleus. As long as Shiva and Shakti are united, dormant, there is no movement, spark, or creation.
However, as soon as they separate, a spark ignites the process of creation, and the universe expands.
6)
As the two poles move towards each other, time and space have to be separated before they can meet.
When Shiva and Shakti come together again, a great explosion takes place, and the nucleus of matter bursts into trillions of fragments, forming the nebulae of creation.
7)
These nebulae vibrate at an incredible speed and velocity, emanating ultrasonic waves and light, representing the first manifestation of cosmic prana. This is represented by the cosmic body or virat.
8)
In the process of creation and evolution, two definite aspects are before us, Hiranyagarbha or cosmic mind, and virat or cosmic prana.
9)
Swara yoga equates Shakti and Shiva with prana and chitta, which manifest in the body as the two nadis, pingala and Ida.
In Sankhya Darshana, they are known as Prakriti and Purusha.
