64% of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck.
To break this cycle, you have to change your money beliefs & mindsets.
Here are 11 toxic money beliefs sabotaging your success:
• I am bad with money
With that attitude, I’m sure you are.
But being bad or good with money is a choice and takes practice.
Choose better and get in the reps.
• I don’t deserve to make more
No one deserves money.
This is a sign you have low self-belief.
With this mindset, money will always be scarce.
• My past gives me no chance
Yes, it’s true for some their starting point will make it harder.
But you can’t look back and expect to move forward.
Take ownership of your future and focus on taking one step forward at a time.
• Money is bad
Money is a tool, neither bad or good.
It’s what you do that makes it what it is.
Quit approaching money with fear and approach it with optimism.
• I can’t keep up with a budget
Anytime you say “I can’t” you’ve already lost.
Start prioritizing it and make reviewing it a habit.
Budgets don’t have to be hard or complicated, but they need attention.
• Money = Success
If getting more money is all that matters, the only “success” is having the most.
This is a road to discontent and feeling like a failure.
You have to have other definitions of success and let money be the byproduct instead of the main thing.
• Keeping up with the Joneses
Comparison is a virus that distracts you from your own journey.
It’s a road to debt, discontent, and a lifelong job you hate.
Live below your means and invest the rest.
Don’t worry about the Joneses down the road.
• Money is scarce
If you believe it is, it’ll surely feel that way.
We’ve never been in a time with more abundant opportunities.
Quit watching Netflix and start a side hustle.
The spoils go to those who do something.
• Emotional spending
This is the person that spends to cope with negative emotions.
Bad day at work? I deserve a treat.
Stressed? Time for some retail therapy.
Friends spending? Now I must too.
This is a path to overspending, debt, and financial instability.
• “I have to take care of my present needs”
We naturally prioritize today over tomorrow.
If you don’t plan for the future, you’ll sabotage your future self.
Small sacrifices today can set you up for an abundant future.
• “I have to take care of my future”
On the other end of the spectrum, you shouldn’t only focus on tomorrow.
Giving up all happiness today for happiness in the future is a mistake.
You never know if that goal will actually make you happy.
You have to have balance.
The path out is simple, but not easy.
But without fixing your mindset, it’s impossible.
Quit self-sabotaging & adopt a better mindset by:
• stop negative self-talk
• take one positive step at a time
• remind yourself you’re in control
• acknowledge money is just a tool
