Arsenal played well today, exploiting the spaces left by Leicester City down the flanks.
Zinchenko always inverted alongside Jorginho, outnumbering Praet (AM) 2v1 (Leicester City were 4-4-1-1).
This caused Tete (LW) to come infield, leaving lots of space on Arsenal’s left.
Trossard often played as a false 9, dropping short to link the play.
Here, he plays a nice switch to Saka.
Leicester played a narrow 4 in midfield but Arsenal forced their back line deep (by runs like that made from Odegaard). This increased the space for Arsenal to play into.
With Tete infield, Castagne (RB) was often outnumbered.
Xhaka was happy to play wide with Martinelli moving infield (close to Trossard).
Leicester’s shape was often a bit of a mess with their midfielders not sure whether to follow the 8s or screen.
A nice pass by Zinchenko ⤵️
Trossard often dropped deeper than Odegaard & Xhaka (who were tracked by Ndidi/Dewsbury-Hall).
This left him with room to receive the ball to feet or drag a CB out like in this example.
Iheanacho was outnumbered 2v1 so Arsenal’s CBs had time on the ball.
Arsenal’s front 5 pushed Leicester’s defence deep.
Leicester’s narrow midfield (to deal with Jorginho/Zinchenko/Trossard) left space on the flanks.
It was fairly easy for Arsenal to enter the final 3rd.
Nice illustration of Arsenal’s shape here ⤵️
