5 Incredibile lessons from the book
Atomic Habits
• Focus on process, not outcomes. Outcomes are relatively short-term, while processes or systems are ongoing. If you rely only on outcomes, you get intermittent reinforcement which makes habits hard to stick to. A good system provides regular feedback and a sense of progress.
• The 1st law of behavior change is make it obvious. Use reminders, tracking, and monitoring to keep your habits visible. The more obvious your habits are, the more likely you are to stick to them. Track your habits each day to stay aware of them and maintain consistency.
• The 2nd law is make it attractive. Associate your habits with positive outcomes and rewards to make them more attractive and enjoyable. Rewards can be both internal and external. Find ways to make the process itself rewarding, not just the ultimate goal.
• The 3rd law is make it easy. Decrease friction and obstacles. Reduce the time, effort, and difficulty required to perform the habit. Break big habits into small steps. Also, make your environment conducive to your goals. Remove temptations and distractions.
• The 4th law is make it satisfying. Provide immediate rewards when you perform the habit. The sooner you feel successful or get feedback, the more likely you are to want to repeat the habit. Celebrate small wins along the way, not just the final outcome.
