By switching different hats, u look at a problem from multiple angles, considering various perspectives and factors
It can be used in a variety of settings, from personal problem-solving to business meetings and group decision-making.
6 hats:
1. White hat (facts and information)
2.Red hat (emotions and feelings)
3. Black hat (Cautions, risks, difficulties)
4. Yellow hat (positive thinking/optimism)
5. Green hat (creative thinking/new ideas)
6. Blue hat (organizing and managing thinking)
Let us apply the principle to an example.
A person is confused between whether he should take up a job or do a startup.
How can he used the 6 thinking hats to decide between these.
White Hat - Gather Information:
👉Research job market and specific job that you are considering
👉Research industry you're interested in and find the viability of your business idea.
👉Consider the current economic climate and risks associated with starting a business
Red Hat - Emotions and Feelings:
👉Consider how you feel about each option.
👉Think about your passions, interests, and values.
👉Consider your risk tolerance and your ability to handle the uncertainty and challenges that come with starting a business.
Black Hat - Critical Thinking:
👉Weigh the pros and cons of each option
👉Consider potential benefits and risks associated with business, such as financial risks, time commitment, and the potential for failure
👉Consider pros/cons of job, such as job security, regular income
Yellow Hat - Positive Thinking
👉Focus on the potential benefits of each option
👉Think about the opportunities for growth that a job might offer
👉Consider the potential for financial success, personal fulfillment, and the sense of purpose that starting a biz could provide
Green Hat - Creative Thinking:
👉Consider the potential for creative and innovative solutions.
👉Brainstorm different business ideas or job opportunities that align with your skills and interests.
Blue Hat - Organizing and Managing Thinking:
👉Use the information to organize and manage your thinking
👉Which option aligns with your values, passions, and goals
👉Evaluate potential risks and benefits of each & weigh them against personal circumstances and priorities
