Look at people who you went to college with. Ignore the top 5%. Look at the next 20%. Do you think they worked harder than you?

Beyond the top 5%, it would be because of some decision they had taken. Joining a particular company, getting a Masters Degree, switching Geographies, investing in some asset at the right time, etc.
