THREAD. People don't really understand why Pep thanks Messi for everything he is as a manager today. It is because Pep has never seen a more perfect thing in football than Messi. I will try and explain what I mean by it 💫
When you see Messi move with the ball for 25 yards for e.g., break it down into 5 parts of 5 yards each. This way you will quickly realize, Messi has so much control over the time and space he has on the pitch. The way he moves accordingly is where Pep sees the perfection 🧠
Pep quickly realized that he is seeing something abnormal from a player and that, it is not to be expected from anyone else. But Pep is a perfectionist. How could he not replicate the most perfect thing he has ever seen? 🤔
Here's his idea. Remember the 5 yard sequences from before? What if you place a player at each 5 yard checkpoint and instead of Messi gliding between checkpoints, it is a passing sequence? This Messi run becomes a passing move between 5 players 👾
This is not a new concept btw. It is discretizing the continuum. This is why Pep keeps mentioning Messi's ability to do everything by himself, while talking about Haaland. Because on the back of his mind, he is worried that he may never simulate perfection a.k.a Messi 🐐
