1/9 #Kubernetes is all the rage; It’s a powerful, accessible, and scalable tool.
The problem is… scaling k8s to the enterprise level can be excruciating. Why?
Well, Turja Narayan Chaudhuri breaks it all down.
A thread👇
2/9 quick note that this entire thread is based on the work of Turja Narayan Chaudhuri from his article.

3/9 #Kubernetes is THE standard for #cloudcomputing
According to @CNCF, 98% of orgs are either using k8s or intend to
And Kubernetes is by far the most popular option at the enterprise level. We're talking about the big boyz like GE, Walmart, etc
4/8 The value prop for K8 use at the enterprise scale makes perfect sense, but the size and complexity of these businesses, makes scaling k8s a perfect storm⛈
As most orgs aren't just setting up a few clusters, they're embarking on full-fledged digital transformation
5/9 the problem is - k8s on the team level is exciting
& with all the resources online, its easy for teams to dive in🌊
Individual teams succeed at implementing it & then evangelize, so more teams jump on BUT without the central governance needed for success at enterprise level
6/9 And so we get what Turja calls "The Great Kubernetes Divide"
Things eventually start to break, and the company is left trying to figure out how and why
Early adopters get dissuaded, and the company starts to feel that enterprise-level k8s usage is too hard to be worth it💀
7/9 So why is scaling k8s so hard? Partially because k8s itself is hard
Some of the key challenges Turja has seen are inherent to how people use k8s👇
8/9 There aren't many enterprise-grade platforms for managing K8s
K8s is new enough that many orgs dont have the expertise
Loosely coupled, stateless, distributed apps based on microservices are harder to maintain than monoliths
Best practices for k8s are still maturing
9/9 k8s has huge potential for orgs, but it wont automatically solve all problems
If you want the benefit it needs to be scaled effectively
Fortunately - Turja breaks down the solution too. But if you want that, you have to hear it from the man himself😉
