BY THE WAAAYYY!! saturated colors are not bad by default! you just need to use them with >>intention<<
making a stylistic choice on purpose is very different from doing it on accident! you should try new things and not excuse your shortcomings by claiming it's your artstyle!

people complain about it because saturated colors, when used improperly, can cause eyestrain and make the artwork look unfocused. if it's what you want to do, learn how to do it well!
same with the airbrush tool, shading with black, using pastels, using filters, etc

the most effective art study method for me has been the 'shrimp method' (prrb.tumblr.com) where you draw something without ref, then with ref, then without ref again, then you revise it with ref, and I CAN'T REALLY EXPLAIN IT HERE so do read the original post!
