Which is preferable- inner or outer beauty?
1. 32-yr old Ms P (along with her mom) consulted me yesterday with kyphoscoliosis since birth (image from internet below). It caused her back to hunch forward and to left side. It resulted in short stature too (height 4 feet 10 inches).
2. She had no back pain, weakness or numbness of legs and had normal bowel/bladder control. She had consulted a surgeon, who had opined that surgery is possible, though it carries moderate risk.
She told me that she looks ugly and her friends often make fun of her. Her marriage +
3. was getting delayed as she was "rejected" by several grooms (& their families) because of her ailment.
She had been a sportsperson (played tennis) and was physically active. She had brought her blood reports (all were normal)- HbA1C 4.6, normal cholesterol, vitamin D and B12.
4. I said "despite what others think about you, as a doctor, you are beautiful, from inside as well as outside. I rarely see people with all normal blood test parameters."
Simple appreciation brought a smile on her face and she promised to look at the positive side of hers.
5. The real beauty lies inside- with all health parameters within normal range.
Fair skin, good height and zero figure may make one look beautiful from outside, however, if sugar, BP, cholesterol and vitamin levels are abnormal, then, outer beauty alone won't help much.
