Many young Nigerians are asking two important questions after the recent elections:
1. Did my vote count?
2. Why should I participate in this flawed process again?
Let's address these questions one by one.
Yes, your votes counted, and your efforts alongside millions of young Nigerians did not go to waste.
The elections lacked transparency, coupled with fraud, violence, manipulation, and intimidation, irregularities.
However, despite these, our votes helped win over 12 states,
including Lagos, FCT, and Nasarawa, with 25% in many states, for a less popular party, which is a major win.
We must count these victories as steps towards our ultimate goal of creating positive change in Nigeria.
Change is not a quick fix, but a gradual process requiring persistence and dedication.
The brave Jennifer Efidi was stabbed at her polling unit, but insisted on voting in spite of that.
This is shining example of the resilience we need to defend & exercise our right to vote.
To address the second question, there is evidence that our participation is essential for change.
Peter Obi, is not the center stage in this race. You are at the center of this election.
We got every day Nigerians, Okada riders, children of nobodies, and people without godfathers who didn't stand a chance, elected into the Senate and National Assembly and changed the face of Nigerian politics forever.
The β€œkeypad warriors” have become a voting bloc.
Labour Party now has a female senator in Abuja, Ireti Kinigbe, more than 5 senators and 20 members in the House of Reps, all without any established political structures in nine months!
Change does not occur overnight.
It happens step by step. Day by day. And we have taken a thousand steps into the future.
Imagine what more we could achieve with consistent participation.
Apathy will not help us get the governors and House of Representatives members that we need to create real change in our country.
It's a long process, not an event, which starts with our participation.
While the court cases are ongoing, we must be proud of our significant wins which show us that change is possible, if we try.
We need to continue building on these victories and the non-existent structures we have been mocked for, to support our movement.
We cannot afford to be apathetic. We can’t give up. We have won at the polls, we have made a statement!
Now, we take back our country.
β€œIt is not the critic who counts, nor who points out their stumbles.
The true credit belongs to those who are in the arena, whose faces are marked by dust, sweat, and blood.
They are the ones who make mistakes, but never lose their determination to keep fighting.”
We are now in the arena, to do the hard work of democracy and never again, will we be underestimated.
It's a marathon, not a sprint, a war, not a battle, a journey, not a trip.
We will retire the evil politicians who stand in the way of progress and take back our country. Believe me, we are winning πŸ†
