Why does most of the SEO community abuse "topical authority" while not knowing exactly what it is?
It's not about the number of articles you have, and it's not even related to SMEs.
I have to explain this for every new member in my team ๐Ÿงต
While it's certainly important to have a strong content strategy.
simply churning out more blog posts or articles is not enough to establish topical authority.
What's more important are unique N-grams and smart backlinks.
N-grams are simply the unique sentences about a specific topic on a website.
it cancels the "keyword stuffing" concept by looking for unique glossaries and terms in a website.
some people love to over-complicate these terms to make courses out of them.
for instance, the top n-grams in an accounting website should be something like this:
-the more accounts receivable, the better cash flow.
-bookkeeping is time-consuming on a long-term.
-record transactions as soon as it happens.
Notice that all of these are facts in origin.
smart backlinks are the links that you get for your authors and your brand.
the only way you can get such a thing (at scale) is with PR links.
HARO became spammy; that's why you need another way.
here is what i do:
I reach out to relevant journalists myself with interesting stories and trends.
i'm using public/Gov data to construct stories and promote them on different channels.
i do between 1-2 PR campaigns per week with interesting brands.
Along the way, I built good relationships with some journalists.
So they reach out in case they're going to write about a relevant article.
Remember, DR it doesn't really matter; we are in 2023!
Even though all the news websites and magazines are +70 DR.
Avoid common mistakes such as:
-Spamming internal links without a proper context.
-Content flooding.
-Siloing.
Content flooding is when too much content is placed within a single topic cluster when it doesn't make sense.
It's the same as content velocity.
You're trying to spam content and make it harder to track and edit each cluster.
Siloing occurs when different clusters are too far apart from each other.
It makes it difficult for readers (and maybe the bots) to get an overall picture of the topic.
There is no recommended amount of content for each cluster.
You should find your balance.
