1. One hopes that in the aftermath of acts of barbarism in Chi-town yesterday, & the consequential premature ending of Winky D's show, youths see that our society has become dysfunctional.
Most importantly, its clear that noone has the luxury to remain indifferent & unconcerned
2. Winky D isn't a politician.
Winky D has he never actively participated in polarizing partisan politics.
His crime, if any, is being a social preacher.
All he has ever done, is sing about broad socio-economic issues, which affect everyone, regardless of political persuasions.
3. More often that not, the default reaction of young people is "handiite zve politics", as a response for instance, to calls to #RegisterToVote
We think we can have the luxury to just go about our private lives, without being affected whatsoever, by politics.
It's impossible!
4. Now imagine being unconcerned, when for instance legal Oppo gatherings are being violently crushed by hooligans, & canceled by police.
You then 'carry on with your private life',- part ways with a few hard earned $s to attend a weekend show, only for it to meet the same fate.
5. Private property was apparently attacked by thugs yesterday
Some Chitungwiza locals had taken heed & not attended the show, after word had spread that some party thugs intended to storm the event.
All this expose the charade of someone thinking "politics doesn't affect me."
6. You also cannot have the luxury of thinking "handiite zvepolitics" when you're qualified yet hopelessly unemployed.
When it has become very fashionable to leave the country & explore any foreign opportunities, no matter how undesirable they are.
Politics dziri kutiita tese.
7. You can't claim "handiite zve politics" when public health institutions are turning into death-traps.
Used to think state of our public health sector is being over exaggerated till I witnessed a huge public hospital being overwhelmed by just about 20 victims of a bus accident
8. You cannot claim: "handiite zvepolitics" yet being an urbanite living in a whole capital city where it's unsafe to drink tap water, which only comes out thrice a month.
Where the most important driving skill in our communities, is memorizing how to navigate potholes.
9. Bottomline is, we need a serious mindshift, in terms of the things we view as important, and worthy of our attention as Zimbabweans, particularly youths.
We need to unapologetically develop a strong interest in governance issues.
Politics dzatisingade kuita dziri kutiita.
10. Someone raised a difficult yet thought provoking query.
The question was: "so a few thugs & excitable policemen stopped a show, yet thousands of people in attendance decided to do absolutely nothing."
This is an important submission that can't just be ignored.
11. Admittedly though, it's a bit misleading to conclude that "those in attendance did nothing".
Opposed to being passive & acting as if what what was happening was normal, those in attendance sang in defiance of lawlessness & solidarity with Winky D.
But, is it enough though?
12. Now it wasn't enough, not because it would've been best to turn militant & fight off the thugs.
Rather, it's not enough to just spontaneously react to random incidences, only to go back home & act as if normalcy has returned.
This only forties the masterminds of lawlessness
13. What's "enough" is finding a sustainable long term solution to these acts of lawlessness being sponsored by ZanuPF.
We've to individually choose between maintaining the status qou (by omission or commission) or actively participating in bringing in change, law & order.
14. Such an opportunity to bring change presents itself this year in Zimbabwe.
We have a pending election, yet many amongst us as youths, including our peers are unregistered yet eligible to vote.
We have the numbers to overwhelm the system & set our county on a recovery path.
15. Those who have presided over the affairs of our country have failed to provide leadership.
Rather, they sponsor anarchists to attack dissenting innocent voices.
We aren't safe from neither the effects of their mismanagement of the country, nor their propensity for violence
16. Before we dream of 'focusing on our private lives', we need to ensure that the country is functioning properly.
To do this, we need to #Vote4Change.
Should that change turn out to be a deception, we'll have to change it too.
There's no other way, #RegisterToVoteZW
enkosi!
