This is the deadline for you to file your income tax online for YA 2022 through the e-BE form.
Claiming these incentives will help you lower your personal income and pay less in total taxes.
Here’s a FULL breakdown of what you can claim. 🧵
G1. Automatic individual relief: RM9,000
Just by completing the tax form, you’re automatically eligible for a tax deduction of RM9,000.
This relief has already been filled out, so you do not need to do anything.
G2. Medical treatment for parents: RM8,000
If you paid for medical treatment, special needs, or carer expenses for your parents, you could claim up to RM8,000 in tax relief.
*Parents refer to biological parents or foster parents of an adopted child.
G3. Equipment for disabled self, spouse, child, or parent: RM6,000
Individuals who have purchased any OKU equipment for themselves or their direct family members can claim up to RM6,000.
*Disabled individuals must be certified by the Department of Social Welfare (DSW) as OKUs
G4. Disabled individual (self): RM6,000
Individuals who are registered as OKUs by the Department of Social Welfare (DSW) are allowed a further deduction of RM6,000.
G14. Disabled spouse: RM5,000
Individuals with a disabled spouse are entitled to a deduction of RM5,000.
G5. Education reliefs for self: ≤ RM7,000
If you’re paying to further your own education at a recognized local institution, the government will grant you a tax relief of up to RM7,000.
The criterias:
G6 & G7. Medical expenses: up to RM8,000
Self, spouse, or child:
-> Serious diseases such as cancer, AIDS, Parkinson’s disease, etc.
-> Vaccination costs of up to RM1,000
-> Medical/mental health examinations and Covid tests up to RM1,000
Self or spouse:
-> Fertility treatment
G8. Tax reliefs on lifestyle spending for self, spouse, or child of up to RM2,500.
-> Any reading materials (hardcopy or electronic)
-> Computers, smartphones, or tablets for personal use
-> Sports equipment/activities, gym memberships
-> Internet subscriptions
G9a. Extra reliefs for sports (self, spouse, or child): up to RM500
-> Equipment/activities
-> Subscription for sports facility & membership
-> Registration fee for any licensed sports competition
*This benefit is in addition to the lifestyle spending reliefs mentioned in (G8).
G9b. Extra reliefs for tech products (self, spouse, or child): up to RM2,500.
-> Computers, smartphones, or tables for personal use
*This benefit is in addition to the lifestyle spending relief mentioned in (G8).
Here’s an example:
G10. Breastfeeding equipment: up to RM1,000
This deduction is exclusive to WOMEN TAXPAYERS, provided that the individual:
-> is a breastfeeding mother
-> spent on breastfeeding equipment for her child aged 2 or below
-> has written evidence (such as receipts) for the purchases
G11. Childcare/kindergarten fees (child aged 6 or below): up to RM3,000
Parents with children (no matter how many) in daycare centres or kindergartens can claim up to RM3,000 in tax relief.
*Childcare/kindergarten must be registered with DSW or Ministry of Education.
G12. Net deposit to SSPN: up to RM8,000
The SSPN, or National Education Savings Scheme, aims to motivate parents to save money for their children's tertiary education.
Parents can qualify for a tax break of up to RM8,000 if they made a deposit to SSPN 1Malaysia.
G13. Alimony payments: RM4,000
Available to individuals paying alimony to their former spouses, but up to RM4k and for formal agreements only.
The spouse must have no income or elect for a joint assessment, and their gross income from non-Malaysian sources must not exceed RM4k.
G15a. Relief for parents with children under 18: RM2,000
Parents with unmarried children below the age of 18 can obtain a tax reduction of RM2,000 for EACH child.
However, in cases where parents file their taxes separately, only one parent may claim this deduction.
G15b: Relief for parents with children aged 18 or above:
RM2,000 deduction per unmarried child aged 18 or above who is pursuing pre-U courses.
OR
RM8,000 deduction per unmarried child aged 18 or above who is pursuing further studies with the following conditions:
G15c. Disabled, unmarried child: RM6,000
A deduction of RM6,000 is allowed for parents per unmarried child who’s physically or mentally disabled, regardless of their age.
An additional RM8,000 will be deducted if the disabled child satisfies the following conditions:
G16. Life insurance and EPF: up to RM7,000
Private and public sector employees without pensions can receive tax relief up to RM3,000 for life insurance premiums.
Additionally, employees are eligible to claim up to RM4,000 for their voluntary EPF contributions.
G17. Private Retirement Scheme (PRS) and deferred annuity: RM3,000
If you have contributed either of these funds, you can qualify for tax relief up to RM3,000.
This relief is effective from YA 2012 to YA 2025.
G18. Education and medical insurance: RM3,000
A deduction of up to RM3,000 in tax relief will be granted if you pay for insurance on education or medical benefits for yourself, spouse, or child.
G19. SOCSO and EIS: RM350
You can receive a tax relief of up to RM350 for contributions made to the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) and Employment Insurance System (EIS).
G20. Domestic tourism expenses: RM1,000
Claim up to RM1,000 for local travel expenses that were incurred between Mar 2020 and Dec 2022 if you have:
-> stayed at a registered hotel
-> paid entrance fees to local tourist attractions
-> booked local tourism packages
G21. Electric Vehicle (EV): RM2,500
Individuals who own an EV are eligible to claim expenses incurred for EV charging facilities.
These expenses include the costs of installation, rental, or subscription fees, but only for the years of assessment 2022 and 2023.
Things to note:
You may access the ezHASiL portal to file your taxes once you have received your Income Tax Return (EA) Form.
You can do so by either logging in or registering on the portal:
mytax.hasil.gov.my
As per the tax laws, you MUST keep all records that support your claims for up to 7 years.
Be sure to store all documents related to your spending, including statements, invoices, and receipts, with care.
This will help you in the event of an audit by tax agents in the future.
