Political parties don't want dynamic leaders to win elections, dynamic leaders are individuals who aren't reliant on the party apparatus for power
Political parties want programs and ideological proscriptions that are owned by the network of institutions that depend on the party
Someone like Trump, Obama, or Reagan may be useful because of the coalition they can forge, but if they aren't willing to make themselves reliant on the machine the leader and the movement must be separated so that the part can take control
There is a very solid case that Trump is unworthy of the movement he inspired, but this is why I am skeptical of "Trumpism without Trump"
The people who want to reap the political capital or MAGA want to turn it into a disembodied set of ideological positions
They fundamentally fail to understand why Trump mattered, like he was just a random configuration of policy positions that can be reengineered and copied onto more dutiful party subordinates
