Have you read such a book which is called "Ram Katha if you read it straight and Krishna Katha if you read it upside down"❓
“Raghavayadaviyam” by the 17th century poet Venkatadhvari of Kanchipuram is one such wonderful text. There are only 30 verses in the entire book. If these shlokas are read straight, then Ramkatha is formed and if read in reverse order, Krishnakatha.
Sri Venkatadhvari was born in Arsanipalai, a village in Kanchipuram. There is such a legend that Venkatadhvari was blind but as soon as he finished composing Lakshmi Sahastram, he regained his eyesight by the grace of Mother Lakshmi.
Sri Venkatadhwari ji has written a total of 14 works, out of which "Raghavayadaviyam" and "Lakshmi Sahastram" are the most famous. Raghavayadaviyam is also known as “Anulom-Vilom Kavya”.
Although there are only 30 shlokas in this book, but if 30 shlokas of Krishna Katha (opposite i.e. Vilom) are also added, it becomes 60 shlokas. This is also reflected in the name of the book, the saga telling the character of Raghav (Ram) + Yadav (Krishna) ~ Raghavayadaviyam.
For example, the first verse of the book is:
वंदेऽहं देवं तं श्रीतं रन्तारं कालं भासा यः।
रामो रामाधीराप्यागो लीलामारायोध्ये वासे॥
Means: I bow down at the feet of Lord Shriram, who has Sitaji in his heart and who went to Lanka for his wife Sita through Sahyadri hills, killed Ravana and returned to Ayodhya after completing his exile.
Now the Vilom of this verse is as follows:-
सेवाध्येयो रामालाली गोप्याराधी भारामोराः।
यस्साभालंकारं तारं तं श्रीतं वन्देऽहं देवम्॥
Means: I bow down at the feet of Lord Shri Krishna, who is worshiped by Rukmini and Gopis, who always sits with Mother Lakshmi and whose beauty takes away the beauty of all jewels.
Isn't it wonderful!
To write 30 verses in such a way that the spirit of Shri Ram and Shri Krishna remains in them is a wonder in itself. This book has been written in Sanskrit language, such a wonderful web of words can be woven only in Sanskrit.
