Explainability is the 1st factor for reporting #SEO data.
If you can't explain, then you can't do it.
And if you don't act, it's a waste of time.
Let's see how and why this is a big ๐Ÿ’ธ waste too ๐Ÿงต
A lot of audits use 3rd-party tools data that are not so easy to explain.
Everything can be misinterpreted and a big waste of time.
Imagine paying to increase your DA.
Oh wait, this already happens.
That's because metrics aren't understood and the final goal isn't revenue but vanity.
This is something you, as a business, can easily prevent.
Be clear when you specify what you want to achieve.
An audit or analysis needs to be implemented first (obviously).
What's not obvious is why people overcomplicate them.
You have to think about your audience and how they can do it.
If the other party doesn't get it, then you'll see the consequences.
I know, it may sound stupid.
But no one cares, the important is getting results.
Great communication is what makes the difference.
And you need to explain SEO/Data in an intelligible way.
A big part of it also goes through detailed templates.
Never assume, be specific.
The problem when you assume things is that others won't get it.
Clear and complete documentation can help you mitigate the problem.
Most tools don't care about this.
That's because they are not people, they can't communicate.
Your role as an SEO (or a Data Analyst?) is to bridge this gap.
This is the difference with developers!
You don't need to be good at coding.
The concept of good is overrated.
A good dashboard should help achieve or track something.
10 pages don't do that.
Decision-makers don't have the time and don't care at all.
Make something concise.
Use simple words and avoid jargon like the plague.
Tie everything to action, otherwise don't even bring it up.
People pay for solutions so you should know how to solve most issues.
Machine Learning for SEO is usually a no for me.
Most of that stuff isn't even ML and you can squeeze more value with basic operations.
ML is about predictions, and that's not as easy as you imagine.
That's because you need decent Math knowledge.
Gurus will tell you that code is enough but it's BS.
You need to explain why something can work and why you should trust it.
The same goes for SEO, it's not easy at all and you should convince people.
Why is SEO a good investment?
Looks easy to answer...
And yet, most answers are the usual boring stuff repeated over and over.
It's hard to hear about some other reasons, including:
- Risk prevention
- Diversification of traffic
- Pulling the demand you miss
Banking and finance are industries where simple models rule.
While we didn't talk much about models, the idea is similar.
You can't use something that people don't get.
Execution requires understanding what to do.
SEO isn't much different, we need simple outputs.
In most cases, the tasks we do are quite stupid uh.
This is a big advantage and you should be happy it's like that!
Paying for audits you don't understand is terrible.
Even more so, if you don't even get an overview of your website.
This goes even outside SEO and encompasses your entire activity.
My next threads will focus on differences and tips about audits.
This will include talking about some more advanced concepts.
Remember, just because others do it, doesn't mean it's correct!
