Charles Hatfield - The Man Who Sold Rain
Early in his career, Hatfield studied meteorology, physics, chemistry, bought chemicals, and conducted experiments. In 1902 he obtained a secret mixture of 23 chemical substances that caused precipitation in the form of rain.
At first he made the usual bets. Eventually Hatfield began selling rain for money. His fame grew and he was already hiring for thousands of dollars. In 1916 they wanted me to fill the reservoir, but at the last minute they changed their mind, the rain tower was already built,
and it started raining for almost a month, the dam on lake Otay burst so 20 people died Then Hatfield he said it wasn't because of him, it was just a coincidence.
Coincidence or not, Charles died on January 12, 1958, without revealing the powder's secret formula.
According to data from the time, Hatfield caused more than 500 storms during his career...
His detractors say he took advantage of his meteorological knowledge to scam
