this is how you don’t relapse in the first 14 days ;
92% of people who try to break an addiction fail in 14 days
This could be alcohol, weed, porn, tobacco, opiates or anything else
The minute you stop using you are hit with anxiety, irritability, depression..
Or just become emotionally blunt &
Crave for relapse as your escape
It doesn’t need to be like this
What I am going to teach you now is a toolset you can use during the first few days of your journey
The first days are the worst, your cravings are at a peak and you are miserable
BUt follow this exact method and you will get past it with ease
First, a little understanding..
For years or decades you’ve been poisoning yourself with extreme stimulation
This repetition has programmed your brain and neuro-biology to function a certain way
When you try to stop it, it will revolt
You will feel this as cravings
BUT..
Remember this, the first 2 weeks will define how well you do on your journey
If you manage to get this right, the rest of the process will flow smooth
I will teach you exactly how to do this with an advanced concept called Behavioral activation
Let’s begin..
This concept is a form of positive affect treatment
The first thing you will need to do is this..
Split up the first 14 days into 3 phases
Each phase is equally important and you cannot skip a single step
Remember why you are doing this
Some sacrifice and pain is warranted
Phase 1 - 7 days
The first 7 days you will focus on & only on the following things
1) Any activity that you enjoy (no relapses or indulgence)
2) Tasks that give you a sense of accomplishment
3) Tasks that align with your values
4) Exposure to online & offline content that convey positive actions
Ignore everything else
Fill up every non work or maintenance time in your day with these 4 activities
Leave minimum room for waste or idleness
Focus only on phase 1 and negate any other thought or action
Phase 2 - 3 days
The next 3 days you will focus on & only on this,
1) Looking for positives (silver lining) in your life
2) Taking ownership and accepting that your life is in your hands
3) Nurturing your sense of pride, mastery and excitement for life
4) Saying out loud your accomplishments in front of a mirror
Do this for 3 days
Every step has a purpose and I will explain soon enough
For now, trust me and follow instructions
I am here to lead and you will follow
Oh, you can also do phase 1 tasks on phase 2 days.. next.
Phase 3 - 4 days
You will do each of the activity at least once every day
1) Meditation for 20 minutes (split twice if hard)
2) An act of generosity without expecting anything in return
3) Nurturing a sense of gratitude for your life
That’s all.
Why do this?
Cravings are neurotransmitter imbalances
The day you stop using, your dopamine and other associated chemicals will be out of whack.. extremely low or out of balance
If you don’t manage the first week right, you will relapse
This is where phase 1 comes in..
All the tasks listed will raise your dopamine levels to an extent where you don’t feel the cravings as much
This will help you ride out the first 7 days
Then there are thought distortions.
These are rationalisations that your brain uses to convince you to give in..
Phase 2 will help you fight them with positive emotions
When you feel positive, you don’t listen to the horse shit your addicts brain will conjure..
It is very important you do this earnestly
Now you’re 10 days in and start feeling good about yourself..
Phase 3..
Phase 3 is all about closing off with feeling empowered.
You will meditate to find tranquility. (It will also help you strengthen your frontal cortex)
You will be generous to embrace kindness (also releases dopamine & oxytocin giving you a helpers high)
Gratitude because you are alive, you have time and you have the opportunity to change any given day..
You just need to feel it.
Now doing this exactly will help you fight of all cravings and emotional flatline in the first 14 days..
What now?
At the end of 14 days, your cravings will be significantly lower. Minimal for most.
Now you will do two things,
1) Follow 90 days of abstinence with systems
2) Lifestyle changes with redirection
