Regarding my tweet on the disgustingly one-sided article on Amritpal Singh protests by NBC News' Sikh reporter @trader_high_vol made a good point that writing an email is worth much more than tagging.
It only took me 10 minutes of my time to write a polite but pointed letter to the NBC News editors who can be reached via email at nbcnewsdigitalcontact@nbcuni.com
Please put the name of the reporter Brahmjot Kaur in your subject line and in the body include a link to the article on the NBC News website:
nbcnews.com
The key points to make are:
- The reporter has quoted ONLY Sikh advocacy groups and not a single Indian or Indian American source has been quoted
- She has not described the protests in UK, USA, Canada as violent which they were and in some cases have led to arrests
- She has not provided any recent context such as the increase in hate crime activity by diaspora Sikh supporters of Khalistan such as demolishing Gandhi statues and attacking Hindu Temples as well as spitting and using hate speech against Hindus
- She talks about 1984 and diaspora Sikh Khalistan activism but omits their links to terrorism such as in the bombing of the Air India flight from Toronto to London which killed 329 people
- She calls Amritpal Singh a "Sikh figurehead" and makes no reference to his poisonous rhetoric against religious minorities in Punjab or credible allegations of stockpiling guns and weapons to engage in terrorism
Please use the above talking points in some fashion in your own words and write a letter. If the editors get even a dozen emails they will likely have a chat with the reporter and it might influence her future reporting on the topic or they might even take her of this beat
Dear @CoHNAOfficial and @HinduAmerican please reach out to NBC News.
