As a YouTube Video Editor,
Making my Clients’ Talking Head videos engaging is my job.
Here are 10 Video Editing Tricks I use to get better Video Retention on my Videos:
1. Show Begins
The First few seconds are most crucial in terms of retaining your viewers.
You’ve to make the First 30 seconds as Engaging and Promising as possible.
Make it energetic if that’s your vibe,
Or at least include a lot of b-rolls.
See how Alex Hormozi does this::
2. Chop Like Butcher
You can’t eat a Whole Chicken in one bite, right?
Why do you expect your viewer to gain all the knowledge in one flow then?
Break your videos in Parts and Give them in bites.
See how Mrwhosetheboss always Chop his detailed video in parts:
3. Not Still
Bring life to your A-Rolls by scaling in and out constantly.
Zoom- 110%
Zoom out- 100%
Ken Burns - zoom
Use Jump Cuts with Ken Burns and trick viewers' eyes to think
Those are different camera angles and movements.
Here's a short tutorial👇.
4. Explain With Ease
Don’t be like that science teacher you hated in school,
Who just spoke a bunch of different words without showing and explaining students.
Use Short Animations to show what you’re talking about with easy.
Comment “want” if you want a course on this:
5. Screen In Style
You’re showing your screen to explain something to your viewers?
Why not add your face in it?
Use Picture in Picture mode to keep the connection between you and your viewers untouched while you show your screen.
I really love how Ali Abdaal’s PIP looks:
6. Got Some Texts?
Add text overlays to provide additional information or emphasize key points.
Text overlays are graphics that are overlaid on top of the footage to provide additional information or emphasize key points.
See How Alex Hormozi uses them:
7. That Was Smooth
Using Hard Cuts all the time can break the flow of your video.
Use smooth transitions to shift between different clips
Add visual interest and make the video flow smoothly from one point to the next.
See how MrBeast uses smooth transitions:
8. Audio Matters
Sometimes, even if your visuals aren’t really good, people can manage.
But if you’re having a Fan In Your Mic, they will quit the video immediately.
Good Sound Quality is a must.

9. B-rolls
You aren't giving a speech, you're making a YouTube video.
People are gonna get bored of watching you,
And to cover that up,
You need to keep adding "relevant" b-rolls every now and then.
They can Either be yours or you can get them from the web.
10. You Hear That?
Don't just let them see what's happening, let them hear that too.
Simple sound effects like "click", "whoosh", and "bass" can add life to your lower thirds and b-rolls.
