You could actually have an increase in luxury but the quality of your life might not be any better than when you had less of what you have now. Quality of life comes with peace of mind. Many are exposed to a lot of luxury but have been denied a qualitative life. May Allah aid us.
Whoever betrays the natural order of living by being dishonest, arrogant, deceitful, greedy, selfish will end up mortgaging his peace of mind. The countenance on his face will betray the material affluence he displays.
When you are tested with power and affluence, live simple because the life you live while in position of authority is always going to be shorter than the life you live outside of that position. Do not allow yourself to be carried away by temporary enjoyment.
It goes to show that, the life you live outside the position of power and authority is more important than the one you live inside it. So your approach to power should always be from the perspective of its transient nature.
Many of us are not aware of how important introspection is in our lives. Always account for the opportunity of time given to you by Allah. Judgement Day is all about giving a detail account of the time spent in the world. We must not allow the euphoria of the day blind us.
Always think about every minute spent. Are you spending it wisely even if it is a moment spent on thinking, was the thought a positive one? That is how meticulous an individual that is well aware of the fact that he will account for every moment spent is.
