Extensor pollicis longus (posterior interosseus branch of radial nerve/C7). Have the patient give a "thumbs up" and push distally. #MayoNeuroResidency
Abductor pollicis brevis (median nerve/T1). The hand should be palm-up with the thumb pointing to the ceiling. Push radially on the thumb. #MayoNeuroResidency
Flexor pollicis longus (anterior interosseus nerve branch of median nerve/C8). Have the patient flex the distal portion of the thumb while you try to extend the thumb. #MayoNeuroResidency
Adductor pollicis (ulnar nerve/T1). Have the patient hold the thumb adducted while you try to pull the thumb out. #MayoNeuroResidency
