Most of the #SEO projects I see have way too many unnecessary tools.
Saving money is important to churn more content or care about value.
That's why reviewing processes is key once in a while.
Let's see how in this short thread ๐Ÿงต
Like every SEO thread, I have to specify that it all comes down to the scope.
Some projects have more resources and you may need more tools.
I will cover the basic case where you have a content website and want to grow it.
The number 1 factor is your value proposition, what users get after visiting your website.
This can't be measured via quantitative metrics.
You need some business acumen and deep knowledge of your audience to succeed.
Ranking and making money are 2 different concepts.
If you have Display Ads, fine, you don't care about conversions.
In all the other cases, you do care about your users.
You can rank with shitty content but you can't build a brand with that.
And yes, you can make money with Display Ads while making the user very unhappy.
For sure, Google will penalize you sooner or later but you have an opportunity window.
I completely dislike this mindset but I am just describing facts.
Many content tools leverage marketing to sell more and more but the actual output is average.
Stuffing keywords is old and doing the same with entities doesn't make you smarter.
A lot of entrepreneurs/bloggers out there have never used these tools and make a lot of money.
A true expert focuses on content quality and uses SEO as a bridge.
A beginner uses SEO to make a difference while ignoring quality.
This is visible when auditing a website, there are clear differences in syntax.
So yeah, NLP tools are nothing new and you can do fine without them.
On-Page SEO didn't change much, the misinformation around it is still the same.
For sure, you have to optimize your content like before but with more attention.
Speaking of Keyword Research, tools like @low_fruits or suggestmachine.com are perfect for many websites.
Forget about enterprise tools for simple projects and focus on what you can offer.
I am astonished to notice how many bloggers don't even use Screaming Frog or such tools.
They are cheap and relatively easy to use after some time.
I wouldn't sleep on them because some errors are easy to fix.
Knowledge is freedom.
Once you code and understand how many processes work, you realize the truth.
Many tools are glorified UIs, the actual service is quite cheap.
That's why I encourage people to close this gap and test things.
My recommendation to any blogger is to focus on 2 factors:
- depth
- originality
If you can churn a lot of content, that's ideal too.
You don't need fancy tools, just hard work and study SEO.
Google Search Console and keyword research tools are your best friends.
You can survive with super-low expenses and still do great.
The shiny object syndrome is real and you aren't missing out on anything.
If your company is spending more on tools than people, you have some problems.
They are useless if not exploited by professionals, so it's like burning money.
This is a common mistake for corporations and enterprises in general.
I know this is not a conventional nice thread, but it's correct to show the dark sides of our industry too.
SEOs and marketers are constantly bombarded by the new info.
I promise, we just need to work more on our originality and creativity.
Even though scripting is separate from Analytics, you may still benefit from my ebook.
I am releasing my first update this month too.
