The WHO considers chronic inflammation the most serious risk to human health. Worldwide, 3 out of every 5 deaths are attributed to it.
60% of Americans have at least one chronic inflammatory condition and 42% have more than one.
But most people have no idea they have it.

Symptoms often start mild & go unnoticed for months/years. Healthy cells, tissues, organs & DNA get damaged.
Unaddressed chronic inflammation can cause:
- cardiovascular disease
- cancer
- diabetes
- arthritis
- alzheimer's
- kidney disease
- inflammatory bowel disease

Acute inflammation happens often when we're cut, infected, etc. Inflammatory cells attack harmful things or help heal injury.
Chronic inflammation is slow, prolonged periods of several months or years even when the body isn't facing sickness, injury, etc.

This is tough bc often times symptoms aren't very obvious & go unnoticed. Leading to disease.
Some signs to look out for are:
- exhaustion
- joint pain
- skin rashes
- ongoing discomfort
- sleep disruptions
- abdominal pain
- constipation
- diarrhea
- fever
- depression/anxiety

Unfortunately most doctors first recommendation is steroids, NSAIDS or supplements.
There are serious instances where these things might be necessary. But here's why I don't think they're right for most people:
- don't address root cause
- lead to dependency
- wreck gut health

I dealt with pretty intense chronic inflammation with my ulcerative colitis. And these drugs were recommended to me.
I didn't go that route because I wanted to avoid wrecking my gut and to address the underlying causes of the inflammation.
Here's what I did:

Here's what I did:
1. Diet
Poor diet was a huge factor with my chronic inflammation. I cut out things like alcohol, processed foods, PUFAs and low quality meats.
I added curcumin as it helps regulate inflammatory signaling pathways & inhibits production of inflammatory mediators.

I added more...
seafood for the benefit of omega-3 fatty acids which help reduce the release of several elements that play a part in inflammation.
I was also deficient in magnesium, vitamin D & vitamin E so I prioritized foods with these nutrients along w/ selenium & zinc.

Magnesium is one...
of the most powerful anti-inflammatory dietary factors.
Vitamin D has anti-inflammatory properties as it suppresses inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins.
And Vitamin E, zinc, and selenium also act as antioxidants in the body.

2. Lifestyle factors
My sleep was a mess at the time. So optimizing my sleep was important as it's important for suppressing inflammation.

in immune function and inflammation. Sunlight also has anti-inflammatory benefits due to vitamin D production.
Managing my stress was another huge factor. Prolonged periods of stress alters the effectiveness of cortisol to regulate inflammatory & immune response.

Making sure I stayed consistent with exercise and sauna use helped as well.
Exercise lowers multiple pro-inflammatory molecules & cytokines. And sauna use stimulates circulation with oxygen-rich blood flow which helps reduce inflammation.

3. Fasting
I started experimenting with intermittent fasting at this point as well to help lower my inflammation. I felt significant improvements from this over a few months.
Fasting reduces the release of monocytes in blood circulation which are pro-inflammatory cells.

Fasting reduces the release of monocytes in blood circulation which are pro-inflammatory cells.
Fasting also helps with production of β-hydroxybutyrate, which directly inhibits NLRP3.
NLRP3 drives inflammatory response in autoimmune diseases, T2 diabetes, atherosclerosis & other inflammatory diseases.

Whether you're trying to lower or prevent chronic inflammation avoiding these things will help:
- alcohol
- sleep deprivation
- stress
- excessive sugar
- EMF exposure
- processed foods
- PUFAs
- low quality grain-fed meats
- high fructose corn syrup

Poor gut health as a result of these things is a common cause of chronic inflammation.
Especially when you let gut health continue to worsen and don't address symptoms quickly and effectively.
Staying on top of gut health & using some of the approaches above can go a long way.
