We need more software engineers in the future, not less.
For every new "agent" we will probably need a few more human devs. Contrary to what others are predicting I think we will need more folks than what we have today.

This predicting feels slightly wrong.
I like the stuff @mckaywrigley is doing but I think he is overestimating the short term.

Sure there will be AI coders, agents that are doing a lot of maintenance and contributing, but I think that having these agents around will give birth to even more human developers.
And also our definition of developers will probably change.

If people are building tools using ChatGPT or other LLM's are they not developers? But the new kind?
Why does a engineer/developer know how to code? Who makes that call.

Another thing to consider is that people like @mreflow that do not know how to code are instructing GPT4 to actually create functional software.

Also the fact that we have plugins for ChatGPT will also make more "new" developers.
