Writing online will change your life.
It helped me:
• Quit my day-job
• Build a profitable online business
• Meet and collaborate with world-class creators
If I had to start again from scratch, here's exactly what I'd do:
Quick context.
Writing online helped me:
• Sell $150,000+ worth of digital products
• Build an audience of 16k+ on Linkedin
• Build an audience of 51k+ on Twitter
• Grow a newsletter of 7600+ subs
In short: A free life.
Here's every step I'd take (if I had to do it over):
1. Find a topic (and obsess)
Let's get the most cliché advice out of the way first...
You've heard this from every:
• Guru
• Writer
• Entrepreneur
Online.
It's because its true.
Don't argue, study.
2. Start on Twitter
There are three reasons you should start on Twitter:
• Data
• More data
• And even more data
That's right...
With Twitter, you can publish 2 ideas (tweets) and in 30 days have 60 different data points.
You can't do that anywhere else...
3. Start a newsletter
I get asked all the time,
"How big should I be before I start a newsletter?"
Answer: N/A
It's never too soon. The newsletter is the foundation to your online business.
4. Repurpose threads → Linkedin
There's a giant arbitrage opportunity with Twitter content.
Repurposing threads into carousels is helping me:
• Add 250+ newsletter subs weekly
• Attract 2500+ followers weekly
(I haven't monetized yet on Linkedin – more to come)
5. Build your creator mastermind
My growth accelerated 100X when I started networking.
It's simple:
• Reach out to creators
• Tell them how great they are
• DON'T ask for anything or pitch anything
Most people want to build human connections.
It's that simple.
6. Offer one-on-one services
You've been:
• Mastering a skill
• Sharing your journey
• And building a newsletter
Now, you can monetize with 1-on-1 coaching.
This gets you in the game of monetization and gives you valuable feedback.
7. Parlay that into a cohort
At a certain point, we need to reduce bandwidth.
A cohort is essentially group coaching.
Now we can:
• Teach more people
• Make more per cohort
• Reduce our bottleneck
We're starting to build towards freedom now.
8. Build leverage with a course
Once you get enough feedback from the cohort
You can again, parlay that into a course.
This is the essence of digital freedom:
• Build once, sell twice
• Virtually 99% margins
• Bottleneck elimination
The (new) American Dream.
9. Sponsor your newsletter.
The goal is income diversification
Once you start to grow your newsletter, monetize it.
Use tools like:
@SwapstackHQ
@PavedEmail
To set up your first sponsorship.
This sequence sets you up with three income streams:
• Consulting services
• Digital products
• Sponsorships
Keep hammering the:
• Distribution
• Marketing
• Sales
To increase income over time.
The most important element of this sequence is traffic.
If you want to accelerate your traffic and audience, check out Audience Curve.
It's the exact blueprint I used to grow from 0-52k and 3M monthly impressions on Twitter.
