Police in San Francisco arrested tech executive Nima Momeni on Thursday for the fatal stabbing of Cash App founder Bob Lee. They knew each other. Momeni had been charged with one count of murder. apnews.com
Momeni is the owner of Expand IT, described as a “one-stop technology and security provider” for enterprise software companies. Lee and Momeni had driven together through downtown SF just hours before Lee was killed, after the two reportedly argued, police told Mission Local.
Police also told Mission Local they believe the murder was “neither a robbery attempt nor a random attack” (Forbes has reached out to the San Francisco Police Department for confirmation).
"Momeni’s LinkedIn profile shows he attended UC Berkeley. But a spokesperson said the university has no record of anyone attending or graduating under his name." sfchronicle.com
Momeni speaks Farsi, the official language of Iran. It is also spoken by large sections of the population in neighbouring countries (chiefly Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates).
In 2021, Bob Lee joined Mobile Coin, a crypto payment firm, as its chief product officer. He relocated to Miami in Oct 2022.
Lee had been in San Francisco on business, stayed an extra day and was killed on that day.
"Lee was walking through a portion of Main St in which there is little to no foot traffic at 2:30am. That was one of several incongruous circumstances surrounding Lee’s violent death, which LE sources, from the get-go felt made it far from a straightforward or random crime."
A "neighbour described Momeni, who was originally from Iran, as “super sweet,” though Momeni moonlighted as a DJ and “pissed off all the neighbors playing loud music at all hours of the night” and hosting parties."
