HOW TO STAY FOCUSED
Read if you often feel lost, conflicted, and/or NOT doing what you’re supposed to.
Young men often have this problem.
This is one of the important parts of your life that once developed will ensure you get what you want out of life at least 90% of the time.
I’m not kidding.
STEP 1:
First, you need to take some serious thinking time to answer the question: what do I really want right now? What is at the top of my priority list?
In 1 month, in 1 year, in 10 years, in 30 years, where do I want to be?
Don’t just think in days.
You don’t need to know HOW you’re going to get there.
Nobody ever does anyway. We may have ideas of what it’ll look like, but will never know for sure exactly how it’ll unfold.
The important thing is ‘Where do I want to be?’
STEP 2:
How much time do I have left?
The reality is that you will not live forever. This means whatever it is you need to get done you must do in THIS life. Before you fucking die.
Every day, you move closer to that endpoint. How much time do you have left?
Here’s how to know.
So, let’s assume you want to be a millionaire at the minimum by the time you’re 30, if you’re 20 now then you have 10 years. If you’re 25 you have 5 years.
This is very different from someone who ‘just wants to be a millionaire.’
Without a clear sense of timing, that person could end up becoming one by the time they hit 60.
Ask yourself: Do I want this?
Answer every question and you will know exactly how much time you have left.
Now, understand that every day that time left REDUCES.
So if you had 8657 days yesterday, today you only have 8656.
This is not to say you should be obsessing over arbitrary dates and freaking out over having one day less to your ‘ultimate goal’…
Rather, this is to remind you that no matter how minute, time is running out.
You must never forget this. Time flies. You think you have so much time until one day you just wake up and you’re old with zero shit done that you wanted to do.
STEP 3:
Align your actions with your goals.
If you want to get better at socializing, you should be at social events and generally spend more time where PEOPLE ARE.
This is aligning your actions with your goals.
You can’t say I want to become a good speaker, and then NEVER speak. You’re not doing things that will make your goal a reality. You must put yourself where the treasure you love is and only there will you find it.
If you want to be smart, think, introspect, debate ideas, open your mind, read, etc.
You need to work at it.
At the end of the day, you are going to DO something. The question is ‘What?’
Why not make the things you do get you the things you want?
Don’t just do things you love doing. You don’t have to enjoy it, but you have to do it if you want the results.
This part is the one most people find difficulty in.
They want to find something they ‘love’ doing so they can build the life they want.
The truth is no matter what it is you do, at some point you will be FED UP!
The breaks you take, the time up. It is not to relax, it is because you are fed up and just want to NOT DO this thing anymore. Maybe for a while, but for some, it can take longer.
All of that doesn’t matter. The real question is: what is the size of your ambition?
Because the weight of your goals will determine how much grit you’ll need to succeed. Because there will be many times when you won’t want to do it, but you have to do it regardless.
Life is not like a children’s playing ground where you get to pick what toys to play with and then when you’re bored you change them.
It is more like a war where you get to choose what weapons you need and when they are no longer useful you change them.
One comes from a place of discipline and focus, the only from ‘feelings’
What blurs the line for most people is ‘why do soldiers laugh?’
If it is so tough, how can they still manage to maintain a sense of humor?
You can laugh through pain too my friend.
So in three simple steps:
Step 1: What are your LONG TERM goals?
Step 2: How much time do you have left?
Step 3: Align your actions with your goals!
