Kansas City has had free buses and trams since 2019 and it's been a great success!

Corporate tax plus a sales tax surcharge can easily cover the cost of running buses. There have been enough proofs of concept around the world. And yet politicians keep pushing expensive metros cos that's where the big contracts are, plus opportunities to inaugurate.
Again, these are just reflexive armchair objections. Actual pilot tests, examples, and satisfaction surveys show that Free Buses work better on every parameter than paid buses. Especially in saving time.
