Working theory:
Every piece of innovation from the 'assembly line' manufacturing, to cars, computers & cellular devices, directed labour to more productive pursuits, & in the process bought us time arbitrage.
Artificial Intelligence is different.
AI's premise is simple β€” eliminate the need for any, and all types of human intervention for any, and all types of work.
You train the model and the machinery for minimal need for humans.
From knowledge workers, to blue collared workers, agrarian to industrial workers, AI’s reach is all-encompassing.
Nobody has witnessed such a seismic shift in removing the need for humans, and that’s a daring technological advancement.
If anything, I’d contend we’re all underplaying the remarkable advancements AI is going to make in the coming years.
Lenin famously remarked, β€œthere are decades when nothing happens, and there are weeks when decades happen." β€” In a weirdly prophetical way, advancements in this field will not grow linearly henceforth, but hockey-stick curves will wipe out entire careers.
I have a more Malthusian view on this which I shall defer from posting here for fear of being skewered.
Happy to engage with people who want to debate, not argue. Peace. ✌️
