Huge announcements in the world of AI today from NVIDIA, Inflection AI, Chegg, and Samsung.
Plus, an AI-generated Selena Gomez just went viral.
Here's the rundown on everything you need to know:
1. NVIDIA’s groundbreaking graphics research
NVIDIA released that they will present around 20 research papers at SIGGRAPH 2023.
In one demo, they create realistic hair for 3D characters in real time.
It seems advanced technology is putting an end to bad hair days.
Research papers range from AI models that turn text into images to inverse rendering tools that transform images into 3D.
NVIDIA’s research has been on fire lately.
2. Inflection AI releases Pi
Inflection AI has just launched Pi, a ChatGPT-like competitor designed to be a kind and supportive companion assistant.
Early user feedback has been underwhelming, with some calling it a "slower version of ChatGPT."
3. ChatGPT claims its first victim
ChatGPT just cut Chegg in half.
In an earnings call, the CEO mentioned that the chatbot is affecting subscriber growth, causing the stock to plummet nearly 50%.
The AI-fueled anxiety rippled through the education sector, with Pearson and Duolingo shares also dropping 15% and 10%, respectively.
4. Samsung bans ChatGPT from company devices
Samsung has decided to temporarily ban the use of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, on company-owned devices and internal networks following an accidental leak of sensitive data last month.
The restriction will last until the company can establish secure measures to safely utilize AI for enhancing employee productivity.
Don’t freak out. the ban will not affect consumers or other Samsung device owners.
5. AI-generated Selena Gomez
This photo of Selena Gomez is currently going viral.
Why? It's a photo of her at the 2023 Met Gala, except she was never even there.
I'll be going a little more in-depth on the news in tomorrow's newsletter.
