There is a common misconception that Muslims are allowed to practice their faith freely in the secular liberal west. They are not. Being able to perform your worship rituals is not equal to being able to practice your faith. Take for example the Legal system. 1
Muslims are not allowed to follow their own legal code, rather they are forced to adhere to the laws dictated by the majority sentiments of that country. Contrast this with Islamic law, which allows non-Muslims to practice their own legal code. 2
In Islamic law, non-Muslims have the freedom to judge within their own community according to their own legal code. They are not forced to adhere to the Islamic law. This is more pluralistic and inclusive. However, secular law is intolerant of any other legal code except itself.3
